Located on the corner of St. Charles and Napoleon Avenues, in the heart of Uptown New Orleans, provides a deeper sense of history and place, drawing inspiration from the rich cultural heritage and city’s origins- French, Creole, Southern, African, and more- to create its distinctive menu. The restaurant’s location has historical significance. In the mid 1800s, military leaders in Spanish Louisiana, like Francisco Bouligny, developed streets connecting residential areas to the business district. Now known as St. Charles Avenue, it was named to honor Charles III, who was a Saint and former King of Spain. As a result, of naming an uptown-to-downtown street after a Spaniard they needed balance. Bouligny’s descendants named their north-south road Napoleon Avenue after Napoleon Bonaparte.

The menu is a bounty of choices with a strong connection to classic French and Creole traditions as what the ancestors dictated, which defines Louisiana cuisine. True to New Orleans and its French Market, the dishes are tailored to reflect the region’s seasonality, while adhering to the local customs. Offerings include but limited to Chicken and Andouille Gumbo or Crawfish Bisque, fresh caught Gulf Seafood from Shrimp to Redfish, overstuffed Po-Boys, and dedicated Oyster Bar open from noon to close, serving fresh shucked oysters at a moment’s notice.

In its own distinctive identity, Superior Seafood & Oyster Bar draws you into the restaurant through its revolving doors and your eyes are carried over to the captivating 32-foot, imported zinc metal L-shaped bar from Paris and it has a stamp of authenticity to prove it. The 25-foot ceiling, large antique mirrors, European bistro chairs and clothed tables, oval oyster bar, and antique tiled ceiling enliven the restaurant as if you stepped in a popular brasserie in Paris. A selection of ruby red leather booths in the front of the restaurant provides a place for private conversations. The weathered tiled floor with mosaic borders, and the light from enormous 1930s reproduction bulbed lanterns falls into the room to complement the other motifs.
